The Smashing Pumpkins have shared the details on a brand new album titled ATUM (pronounced “autumn”), which is billed as a 33-song rock opera, being released in three acts as the sequel to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/Machine of God. Wow, that’s a lot to unpack right there, so let’s do our best.

If you’re a Smashing Pumpkins fan, there is a lot of music coming from Billy, James, Jimmy and Jeff. In 1995, the Pumpkins followed up their hugely successful Siamese Dream album with an even bigger Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness that featured hits “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and “1979”. This album was already a double-album so it’s surprising to hear it has a sequel and we can’t wait to hear everything included in this 33-song rock opera.

ATUM will be slowly released over the course of three acts all coming over the span of 11 weeks. Act 1 will make its debut on November 15th, Act 2 following on January 31st and Act 3 on April 21st. You can also wait for a special box set with all three acts plus 10 additional bonus tracks also coming April 21st.

The Pumpkins are giving us a small taste with a new song called “Beguiled,”. No telling yet how much material from ATUM will be played on their upcoming tour with Jane’s Addiction.

Check out the new song and tell us what you think.
